Hi! :) I started my Face Paint Project the week of Nov. 9, 2009 using Elmer's Face Paint (Item #EC61325). The table layouts below are thanks to some basic HTML coding (courtesy University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire). :)

  1. Hi, a face painting friend stumbled across this and let some of us know about it. What's it for?

  2. Hi, Larissa! :) I started this project the week of Nov. 9, 2009. The impetus for it came out of my first Halloween experience trick or treating.

Growing up, I never had the opportunity to go trick or treating door to door, and I don't remember ever being in costume or wearing face paint on Halloween. Last year, I was invited to take part in a commercial trick or treating event.

I didn't have much money, but I bought about $10 worth of face paint and a Halloween plastic door sheet that I used as a cape. That day, I received several compliments about the makeup.

Once Halloween was over, I felt disappointed. I thought: Why should I have to wait another year? Thus inspired, I set out with my face paint project, which is now in its 12th series.

Right now, I'm still playing with the form. If my project goes in the direction I'm hoping for, I'll be very excited.

    :)

  3. Hi, just realized you responded. You know, if you want to learn more about face painting and get some great resources, check out www.snazaroo.us or email me at njfacepainter@gmail.com. Always ready to welcome a new one into the pack!

And you're right, there's no reason to wait a year between face painting; I'm either painted or painting year round!

Your paintings seem a little... intense. Not your typical birthday party or Halloween fare, if I may. Is there a story behind them?

  4. Thanks for the heads up, Larissa! :) As far as my content, I'm an adult; so they're definitely not targeted to children.

Let's call it an experiment with my psyche. I'm imprinting thoughts or impressions. In some instances, I allow the images to form on my face before I paint them; in others, I arrive at the mirror with an intention.

What's inspiring some of the images, I don't know. But am I recognizing art styles? In at least one instance, yes, but I couldn't tell you who the painter that's buried in my subconscious is, as I've been exposed to a lot of art schools at different periods in my life.

Right now, I'm playing with various ideas. I'm also working with the text, etc.

Other than that, I'm just an artist who decided on a canvas: my face. Where/how/etc. this project will evolve in/to, I can't say yet; I'm just committed to following it through.

    :)
